| Distribution automation is an effective means to enhance power supply reliability and energy quality, and is also an important research topic in power distribution area. Feeder Automation (FA) is one of the important contents of the distribution automation. The remote terminal unit (FTU) is the fundamental control unit for the Feeder Automation, which plays an important role in realizing the Feeder Automation and distribution automation. This paper studied lots of references and recent research works and consulted kinds of projects of FA and FTU design, summarized and aroused own definition and comprehension of FA, discussed the communication with upper stations, LCD displaying, filter design, the arithmetic of FFT, the realization of other arithmetic and the choice of coinmunication protocol. Simulation has also been made for the function of the controller after the design work. The results show that the main functions proposed in the paper have been realized, and the technical requirements for the controller have been met.
